What is the purpose of this site?
The purpose for Smokeasys.com is to give users access to a database of cigar friendly locations around the world. The sites are displayed on a map platform so that people can learn their exact locations relative to their area. The idea behind it is the increasingly restrictive tobacco laws going into effect have made it tough for people who enjoy cigars to find places where they can go to enjoy a cigar.

Who needs to use this website?
This site was built for cigar lovers and their friends. If you're a cigarette smoker you'll still be able to use this site. However, many places that allow for cigarette smoking do not allow for cigar smoking. We ask that only places that allow for cigar smoking be added to our database.

How do I help contribute to this site?
To help contribute to this site do the following steps:
1) Register for a new account. click here to register.
2) Login to your account
3) Click the 'Add a site' button on the main menu bar to begin the site addition process.

You can also help contribute to the site by searching the sites that we have and reporting any errors you find in the data for those sites. You may also leave comments and feedback of a site that you may have visited.

Why use a map?
A map helps put a spacial feel to the sites as well as give the users a visual sense of where the sites are as well as provide a fun way for users to navigate their favorite cigar venues.

What type of map are you using?
The mapping platform chosen for this site is the Google Maps platform. You can find more information here.

Why did you use that type of map?
Google Maps was chocsen because of its accuracy of address placement, its map quality and consistancy. Above all, its treasured by its online developers because of its cost... free! :)

How do I move the map?
To move the map around simply left click on any area of the map not covered by an icon or symbol and drag the map. To stop moving the map simply release the mouse button.

How do I zoom in?
You can zoom in three different ways:
1) Place the mouse cursor over the place you wish to zoom into and use your mouse wheel by rolling it forward. The map will then zoom in closer on that exact location.
2) Click the zoom in control located at the upper left hand corner of your map as shown here:



3) Right click on the place on the map you wish to zoom in on. A menu will pop up. Click on the 'Zoom in here' link as shown here:



Here the user has right clicked on the area of St. Louis, Missouri and is about to click, 'Zoom in here' on the pop up menu. Either method will produce the same effect.

How do I zoom out?
You can zoom out two different ways:
1) Click the zoom out control located at the upper left hand corner of your map as shown here:



2) Place the mouse cursor over the place you wish to zoom out from and use your mouse wheel by rolling it backwards. The map will zoom out based on where your mouse cursor is pointed.

How do I search the map?
Searching can be done in two different ways:
1) Search by using the search by city bar to the left of the map. Its programmed to tell users what citys are available from their typing pattern. In this figure, we see the drop down of citys containing sites that start with the letters 'san'.



Clicking on any of the dropped down names will place that city name in the search bar. The user only need to click the 'search' button to search the database and display the results.

2) Right click on the area of the map you wish to search and click on 'search here' in the resulting pop up menu on the map as shown here:



This will search the database for all sites within a thirty (30) mile radius of the point you clicked.

How do I see details of each site?
Once search results have been returned putting your mouse curson on any of the Smokeasys map icons will pop up the name of the site as well as display the site information on the bar left of the map.

How do I add a comment to a site?
To add a comment to a site you must have registered for a free account and logged in. Once you have completed a search and clicked onto one of the site icons you'll see a link on the left labeled 'Add Comment'. Clicking that will trigger a text input box where you can state your thoughts on that site. Clicking 'Submit Comment' after you're done will submit the comment for addition to the database.

How do I report a site for bad informatoin?
To report a site you must have registered for a free account and logged in. Once you completed a search and clicked onto one of the site icons you'll see a link on the information bubble labeled, 'report site'. That link will open up a text box where you can report what you've found wrong with the site. It can be bad address, improper site type, whether or not there is any smoking section anymore, etc.

How do I add a site?
To add a site you must register for a free account and login to that account. Once you're logged in the 'add a site' link on the main menu will become live and you click it to get to the site addition page. From there you add sites to the database.

What are the steps?
1) Enter the street address of the site you wish to enter.
2) Click your address from the list of addresses presented to you below the search bar. If the exact address you are looking for is not in the list presented to you then you'll need to refine your search in the address search bar.
3) Once you click the address link fill out the site information input areas. When you're done entering the information, click the 'submit' button and the site will be added to our database.

What information do I need?
You need not fill out everyone of the fields. You only must provide a name and site type. There are fields for obvious things like phone numbers, website address, etc. There is also a field for smoking type. Its basically what type of smoking area does the location provide? It could be a patio, a bar area or the entire establishment.

What types of site can I enter?
What we are looking for are businesses. Tobacco stores, bars, restaurants, hotels, etc that have an allowed area for smoking. Be on guard though that not every place that allows smoking allows for cigar smoking. And while any cigar shop might allow smoking on the inside, what we want is a place where people can go and enjoy a cigar in a relaxed environment. Also, please don't enter sites of a personal nature. We appreciate that your good friend has a walk-in humidor and every special edition robusto since the Reagan administration but we're pretty sure that its not open to the public.

Will anyone see my user ID?
For now no one will see your user ID. In the future there might be a creditation of sites to their submitters. The only people aware of your user ID are the administrators.

How do I get an account?
To register for a free account, simply click the login button on the main menu and then the 'REGISTER HERE' link. That will bring you to the registration screen. If you want however... just click here.

Why do you need my email address?
Your email address is needed to confirm your registration. Its simply a way to confirm that you are who you say you are and reduce the amount of spam for our administrators.

What will my account allow me to do?
With your account you'll be able to:
1) Add new sites to the database
2) Add comments on existing sites
3) Report sites as incorrect or missing information.
In addition in the future there will be more actions only available to registered users.

How do I login to my account?
Use the 'Login' button on the main menu. If you don't see a login link, that means that you're logged in already and in its place you'll see a 'logout' button instead.

How do I logout of my account?
Simply click the 'logout' button located on the right side of the main menu bar.
